The Trade Desk is a dynamic technology company with a legal team that is rapidly growing. We are looking for a commercial and marketing attorney who has excellent judgment and loves to negotiate deals, analyze complex legal issues and find creative solutions.
We seek candidates who enjoy working independently, are highly resourceful, have exceptional communications skills and are able to balance competing demands in a positive and client-friendly manner. We want collaborators who will help structure deals with business counterparts and, hopefully, contribute some humor to our legal slack channel. What You'll Do:
- Exercise strong judgement to advise The Trade Desk team and contribute to the overall success of the business;
- Structure, draft, negotiate and review a wide variety of commercial agreements, including master service agreements, supplier agreements, and various other agreements with strategic partners;
- Provide strategic advice to the global marketing team on legal and regulatory issues;
- Oversee major global client relationships;
- Continually improve our legal processes to help us scale globally with a consistent but locally relevant approach;
- Provide practical advice on legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures and company policies in a risk-tolerant, but compliance-oriented environment;
- Identify, research, analyze, and advise teams on a wide range of relevant legal topics, issues, and risk (e.g., licensing, intellectual property, commercial, data security, and privacy law);
- Distill and communicate complex legal concepts in layman's terms.
Who You Are:
- 3+ years of experience working in an internationally/nationally-recognized law firm or in-house legal department (a mix of law firm and in-house experience is preferred);
- Admitted to practice in New York or the ability to register as In-House Counsel in New York;
- Juris doctorate;
- Excellent legal skills, including substantive experience in structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements;
- Effective communicator, with the ability to interact with internal and external constituents at all levels;
- Ability to thrive in fast paced environment, while juggling competing, time-sensitive demands;
- Strong business sense and ability to exercise good business judgement;
- Experience working on marketing matters a plus;
- Background in advertising and/or digital media is a plus;
- Excellent interpersonal skills (sense of humor is a big plus).
Our Compensation and Benefits ( for NY, CO, CA, and WA residents only)
At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $96,500 -$176,900
In accordance with NY, CO, CA, and WA law, the range provided is The Trade Desk's reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year.
