Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining direct representation and an active case load in the areas of consumer and housing, as well as providing counsel and advice on such matters and referrals to suitable resources. This includes doing your own drafting of legal documents and your own calendaring.
  • Establishing a relationship with clients and maintaining regular contact for the duration of their legal actions, with specific attention to trauma-informed representation.
  • Attending hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and other court functions fully prepared and actively advocating for clients.
  • Attends outreach events for NNLA and other regional events.
  • Provides legal services to NNLA clients in other program areas when needed and other tasks that may be assigned to you.
  • Collecting, updating, and reviewing client and grant-reporting data on a monthly basis.
  • Other administrative tasks as assigned/necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in the English/Spanish language (recommended but not requirement).
  • Experience with consumer and housing issues including NRS 118A and post-COVID eviction protections on a state and federal level (recommended but not required).
  • Exposure to Section 8 and Low-Income House Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs (recommended but not required).
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. An empathetic yet effective communicator with a positive attitude, able to explain complex legal matters to clients in a manner that ensures their comprehension.
  • Ability to understand the lives and struggles of the clients and patients. Be comfortable working with individuals of different backgrounds, including those from different cultures, socio-economic statuses, seniors, and vulnerable populations.
  • Desire to problem-solve, make decisions efficiently, and refer clients to resources as appropriate.
  • Have strong organizational skills, technical/database skills, and attention to detail.
  • Be able to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a great team of caring individuals providing an invaluable service.
