Description:

Foley & Lardner is seeking an associate with 3-5 years of relevant experience, or a non-partner track special counsel with 3+ years of relevant experience, to fill a national position supporting our Consumer Finance practice. The successful hire can be based in any of Foley's U.S. offices. The position involves regulatory counseling and drafting relating principally to federal and state consumer lending laws, licensing requirements, Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Credit Billing Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and unfair trade practice and consumer protection laws. The ideal candidate will have experience in a number of the aforementioned consumer lending or finance areas – in particular as it relates to compliance counseling for lenders, servicers and/or consumer reporting agencies. Qualified candidates must have solid/significant consumer finance experience, including experience with negotiating and drafting contracts, preparation of consumer and/or commercial lending documents, state and federal regulatory interpretation, and licensing requirements. The position requires regular client and regulator contact and an eye for detail, thus strong organizational, analytical, prioritization, and critical-thinking skills are required. We are seeking a well-rounded, dynamic, highly motivated attorney, who is comfortable working with multi-disciplinary teams and has demonstrated the ability to thrive and prosper in enterprising and complex environments. Additionally, this candidate will have a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and an exceptional work ethic, coupled with a desire to be part of a collaborative environment. We value collegiality, creativity, and intellectual curiosity among our lawyers and seek to make the practice both professionally and personally rewarding. To be considered, a candidate must hold a JD from an ABA-approved law school and must be in good standing and an active member of the bar of the jurisdiction(s) where the candidate is admitted to practice. Timely admission to the state bar coinciding with the office of hire will be a condition of employment. Interested applicants should submit resume, law school transcript, and cover letter indicating preferred office location. Current judicial clerks need to apply directly and may not be submitted by a legal recruiter.
