Description:

Who we are:
At Platform Science, we're working to connect everything that moves.

Founded in 2015, we are an open IoT platform that partners with innovative fleets, application developers, vehicle manufacturers, and equipment providers in the transportation industry to deliver revolutionary solutions to supply chain professionals across the globe.

Our employees are an engaging, diverse group of people who believe in the power of great ideas. We hire people with different experiences and perspectives to build a company culture that fuels growth through innovation.

We value thoughtful actions and empathy for others. We approach challenges with resiliency and creativity, while encouraging transparency because, no matter our backgrounds or responsibilities, we are one team.

About the role:
We are looking for an excellent Attorney to join our team and make an immediate positive impact. You will focus on business development arrangements, customer agreements, vendor agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other legal matters, as we rapidly scale our ecosystem of third party applications & solutions and customers on our IoT/SaaS platform. The position will work closely with other attorneys, the Contracts department and various internal groups, and externally with counsel for other businesses on contract negotiations, transactional management and other matters. The successful candidate will have experience at a larger law firm or elsewhere with good transactional training (e.g., tech transactions, corporate, real estate), and ideally also in-house for a software-focused business that has experienced high growth.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing company and work with cutting-edge technology and new business models, and be well positioned for future growth. This position will be the newest addition to a medium sized, but growing, collegial team of attorneys and contracts professionals. The location for this role is at our San Diego, California headquarters.

The primary work location will be daily, onsite in the San Diego, California office.

What You'll Do:
  • Work on cutting-edge commercial contracts (customer, OEM, partner, vendor etc.) and other legal issues for fast growing IoT platform / SaaS providers, working directly with internal stakeholders as well as externally with other parties.
  • Experience working in a hyper-growth, fast-paced SaaS business with a novel business model, where the emphasis is on “building” as opposed to “maintaining”.
  • Gain or grow experience in important, current legal areas such as data security and privacy, intellectual property licensing and commercial law, software, telecommunications, platforms and internet of things (IoT).
  • Work with a relatively small but growing team (3 attorneys, 2 contracts professionals currently) of knowledgeable, kind and fun people, as well as with some of the brightest minds in technology and business.

What We're Looking For:
  • 5-8+ years of overall legal experience at both a larger law firm as well as in-house preferably at a business involved in software.
  • Legal experience needs to demonstrate heavy deal flow and formal training, with demonstrated successful track record of assuming increasing responsibilities
  • Ideally, experience with a SaaS business with enterprise customers, including matters such as data security/privacy
  • Prior experience with intellectual property licensing
  • Experience supporting procurement and non-disclosure agreements
  • Successful communication skills and collaboration with senior management, internal teams, and external partners
  • Desire to learn new things in a fast paced environment
  • As travel to the office (in San Diego, CA (UTC area) is required at times including at times on relatively short notice, the successful candidate should reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside or San Diego counties.
