Description:

Summary:
A Government Entity is seeking an outstanding attorney to join its Labor Law team. The position is eligible for telework up to three days per week.

Duties:
A Government Entity is the largest unionized employer in the country, and attorneys in the Labor Law group have a diverse practice, including litigation before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and federal courts, arbitrations, collective bargaining, and general advice matters arising under the NLRA and other federal employment statutes.

The successful candidate may represent A Government Entity in first and second chair capacities in labor arbitrations, NLRB proceedings, and occasional district court litigation alongside the Department of Justice. Attorneys within the Section also assist in collective bargaining with multiple national unions representing different crafts within the rank and file, as well as in consultation proceedings with postal management associations. When we are unable to reach negotiated agreements, our attorneys take the point in litigating national interest arbitrations, which establish contractual terms for that round of bargaining. Our attorneys also provide advice and representation concerning a broad array of labor and employment statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

A Government Entity offers a diverse and varied traditional labor practice with opportunities for immediate substantive litigation and arbitration experience, within a collegial atmosphere affording mentorship and training opportunities, generous federal benefits, and an excellent work-life balance including up to three days per week of remote work. This is a unique opportunity for any attorney interested in developing substantive expertise and experience within the resurgent field of traditional labor while working for the only federal agency subject to the NLRA, which governs labor relations within the broader private sector.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts legal research and prepares written material for use in representing A Government Entity and advising postal management officials.
  • Participates in conferences necessary to representing or advising A Government Entity officials.

  • Prepares replies to inquiries from Congress, government agencies, and the public.
