Position Summary & Responsibilities:Position Summary: Provide legal services as an attorney in the areas of asset forfeiture, criminal law, constitutional law, and other legal issues that arise during agency operations. This may include but not limited to case negotiations, represents the agency in administrative and judicial hearings, including appellate courts. Works with considerable independence in performing all legal work related to assignments in an agency having legal issues of moderate to high complexity.
Provide up to date legal training to incoming trooper trainees in a classroom setting in the area of criminal & constitutional law. Provide legal updates, annual in-service training, specialized training courses and remedial legal training to all agency personnel as needed.
Provide legal advice regarding daily law enforcement operations to field personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel and/or Command Staff.

Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas.
- Graduated from an accredited school of law.
Licensing & Certification:
- Valid Driver's License.
- Certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas.
- License to practice law in Kansas.
Necessary Special Requirements: Certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas or temporary permit to practice law issued by the Supreme Court of Kansas and two or more years experience in criminal or civil litigation required.
- Position requires designation as a State of Kansas Special Assistant Attorney General.
- Ability to teach legal subject matters and speak clearly in front of a group.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely in person and on the telephone. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must submit to and pass a thorough background investigation.
