Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

The Legal Office's Advice - Health, Operations and HR Unit is currently seeking an Attorney III to advise senior leadership and program staff in the Health Policy and Benefits Branch regarding healthcare matters confronted under the Public Employees' Medical and Hospital Care Act (PEMHCA), including statutory interpretation, establishment and maintenance of contracts with Health Maintenance Organization plans, a self-funded Preferred Provider Organization administrator, the pharmacy benefit manager, the self-funded long-term care program, and health care reform. The Attorney III also provides formal, informal and verbal legal advice on matters related to government law, including Constitutional and statutory interpretation, administrative law, the Public Contract Code, the Public Employees' Retirement Law, open meeting law, public records requests, State Administrative Manual, Statewide Information Management Manual, State Contracting Manual, and conflicts of interest law.

  • Experience conducting legal analysis and advising clients on complex and sensitive legal issues related to employment and labor law issues; progressive discipline and disciplinary actions; and human resources policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity and experience with workplace investigations and EEO-related investigations.
  • Knowledge of public pension and retirement law, including the Public Employees' Retirement Law, health benefits law, public records law and open meeting law.
  • Possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work with all levels of staff and the public.
