Job Duties (Summary):
- Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 or Revised Code.
- Completion of 24 credit hours of continuing legal education from accredited programs for applicable two-year reporting period pursuant to Rule X of Rules of Government of Bar of Ohio.
- Current certificate of registration in good standing pursuant to Rule VII of Rules of Government of Bar of Ohio.
- One (1) year experience as attorney in Ohio; or equivalent.
Job Duties (Summary):
- Represents indigent children charged with offenses which include, but are not limited to, misdemeanors and felonies, if committed by an adult from the moment of first contact until the conclusion of the case. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting with each child as many times as is necessary, zealously advocating on behalf of each child at all stages of the trial court proceedings, drafting and arguing motions and objections, and appeals.
- Determines legal strategy to be employed at all stages of a case and, along with assistance from investigators and/or support staff, seeks out facts and circumstances surrounding the charges.
- Advises clients on the legal and practical ramifications of the various steps in the juvenile justice system.
- Conducts case reviews, researches legal questions and examines the procedures used by police and prosecuting authorities to assure that the constitutional rights of each child are not violated and, if a violation is found, performs such legal representation as is necessary to ensure that the child's rights are protected.
- Maintains an ongoing knowledge of juvenile and criminal law, legislative activities, current policing and prosecuting procedures and other juvenile justice activities, including significant court decisions.
- Attends meetings, roundtables, case reviews and seminars and may present at same; maintains legal records, and performs other related duties as assigned.
