Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- 5 years of litigation experience
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Customer Service Oriented.
- Excellent Computer Skills
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Current membership in the State Bar of Texas
- Must pass a Criminal Background check
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide legal representation in protective order hearings and related family or criminal court matters.
- Advocate for clients in negotiations, settlement discussions, and court appearances.
- Work collaboratively with advocates, social workers, prosecutors, law enforcement, and community partners.
- Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with organizational standards and legal ethics.
- Participate in outreach events, trainings, and community education on domestic violence and protective order laws.
- Performs a variety of complex, independent duties in conjunction with court trials, including performing discovery, evaluating legal theories and principles, performing research, etc.
- Screens cases; reads offense reports to determine if abuse has occurred.
- Draft petitions, motions, affidavits, and other legal documents.
- Represents the county during bond forfeiture hearings.
- Enters pleas before the Judge.
- Participates and assists in pre-trial preparations.
- Performs other complex legal functions in a specific, assigned legal area to include misdemeanors, family violence, and JP appeals.
- Able to report regularly for work and be on time.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in an office or in a courtroom.
