This position is responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases to include Protective Orders.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited school of law.
5 years of litigation experience
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Customer Service Oriented.
Excellent Computer Skills
Skill in oral and written communication
Current membership in the State Bar of Texas
Must pass a Criminal Background check

Essential Job Functions:

Provide legal representation in protective order hearings and related family or criminal court matters.
Advocate for clients in negotiations, settlement discussions, and court appearances.
Work collaboratively with advocates, social workers, prosecutors, law enforcement, and community partners.
Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with organizational standards and legal ethics.
Participate in outreach events, trainings, and community education on domestic violence and protective order laws.
Performs a variety of complex, independent duties in conjunction with court trials, including performing discovery, evaluating legal theories and principles, performing research, etc.
Screens cases; reads offense reports to determine if abuse has occurred.
Draft petitions, motions, affidavits, and other legal documents.
Represents the county during bond forfeiture hearings.
Enters pleas before the Judge.
Participates and assists in pre-trial preparations.
Performs other complex legal functions in a specific, assigned legal area to include misdemeanors, family violence, and JP appeals.
Able to report regularly for work and be on time.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.

The work is typically performed in an office or in a courtroom.
