We are seeking an experienced attorney who can provide quality legal services to our large, diverse client base. Our firm handles estate planning, elder law, Medicaid, and trust and estate administration.

This role focuses primarily on uncontested Surrogate's Court matters in New York City and surrounding counties. There are also opportunities for matters in our other practice areas and we are open to training the right candidate in those areas, although you should be able to take on estate administration matters immediately and be familiar with Surrogate's Court practice in New York City.

Origination credits are available and business development is supported, but not required.

We are open to a reduced or flex-time schedule, but the ideal candidate will be able to be in the office several days per week and available for (rare) court appearances in New York City counties.

Responsibilities:
  • Meet with potential clients to determine if they are a good fit with the firm and propose a potential engagement
  • Advise clients by weighing available options toward a successful outcome and plan a course of action
  • Perform legal research
  • Prepare various legal documents such as petitions, motions, legal memos and correspondence
  • Routine court appearances in Surrogate's Court for citation dates, control dates, conferences, etc.
  • Supervise and delegate to paralegals and administrative staff, including as-needed training

Qualifications:
  • Admission to New York Bar and a minimum of 3+ years of estate planning & Surrogate's Court experience
  • Demonstrated ability to independently handle probate and administration matters from initial consultation through conclusion
  • Ability to manage a caseload while maintaining excellent client communications and time-keeping/internal file updates
  • Communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills required
