Description:
An Anglo-Dutch Multinational Professional Services Network Company is currently seeking an Associate/Senior Associate to join our Trade and Customs practice.Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the First Sale for Export program, ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations
- Conduct detailed transactional reviews to verify eligibility for First Sale valuation and document compliance requirements
- Gather and analyze import/export data, commercial invoices, financial statements and purchasing agreements to determine accurate customs valuation
- Coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, and external partners to ensure proper documentation and procedures are followed
- Monitor regulatory changes and trade updates to ensure continued compliance and identify potential risks or opportunities
- Aid in client engagements by preparing reports, summaries, and presentations related to First Sale for Export strategies
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Associate:
Provide leadership to associates and review work
Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of recent direct experience in trade compliance including First Sale, U.S. Customs and Border protection rules and regulations, the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Code, and U.S. customs valuation requirements.
- Bachelors' degree, J.D., LL.M. in taxation and/or MBA from an accredited college/university
- Outstanding and in-depth experience with U.S. import and export control regulations with the ability to address complex matters with practical advice and solutions
- General export control and sanctions experience, in areas such as export control compliance audits/review and assessments, voluntary self-disclosures, advisory opinion requests, classification, and developing a trade compliance framework
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication/presentation skills with strong technical skills with the ability to plan and conduct in-depth reviews of transactional data using data and analytics preferred; previous experience in a leading tax/advisory or trade law firm is preferred
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
Additional Qualifications for Senior Associate:
- Minimum three years of recent direct experience working on engagements involving import and/or export compliance matters
- United States Customs Broker or CUSECO certification preferred
