Description: Harris Beach seeks an associate with 3-5+ years of diverse experience in land use, zoning, environmental, and related litigation experience. The successful incumbent will be an energetic self-starter with a thorough understanding of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and experience appearing before municipal boards and courts.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and prepare zoning applications and assist in navigating municipal approval processes.
  • Appear before municipal boards, zoning boards of appeal, planning boards and/or other municipal review boards on behalf of client.
  • Knowledge of applicable land use and environmental statutes and regulations including SEQRA, RCRA, CERCLA, New York Navigation Law, NYC ULURP, NEPA, and NY Town, Village and City Laws.
  • Some litigation experience with Article 78 proceedings, zoning challenges, and environmental claims.

Qualifications:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in land use, zoning, environmental and related litigation
  • Must have experience in front of municipal boards
  • Must be admitted in New York State
  • Must have excellent research and writing skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated high level organizational skills for prioritizing workload
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb, process and understand new information rapidly
  • Maintains high standards of performance
  • Exhibits conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility
  • Must have a professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities within various levels of the organization
  • Military experience welcome
