We are seeking an energetic, versatile individual to join our Global Legal team full-time as Associate Intellectual Property Counsel. In this role, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and other professionals, in different clinical specialties, to capture and safeguard the company's innovations and interests. Responsibilities:
Job Duties:
- Provide legal advice, support, and assistance relative to day-to-day management of A Medical Equipment Manufacturing Company's global intellectual property portfolio, including but not limited to inventions, patents, trade secrets, and trademark matters
- Support development and application of A Medical Equipment Manufacturing Company's global IP portfolio in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders and in alignment with business goals and priorities
- Facilitate and support freedom-to-operate searches, and manage and review outside counsel's freedom-to-operate searches and analyses
- Manage outside counsel who advise on IP matters
- Manage IP budget and spend relative to preparation and prosecution of US and foreign patent applications, and enforcement of global intellectual property rights
- Evaluate and provide legal advice on all aspects of A Medical Equipment Manufacturing Company's corporate IP practices
- Stay updated on relevant law, regulations and evolving developments in global IP law, providing legal advice to management and other attorneys and recommending policy and/or process changes as needed
- Develop and participate in education and training, ensuring appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of pertinent standards, policies and laws
Qualifications:
Minimum Work Experience/ Educational Requirements:
- 3-5 years of IP legal experience, in a law firm, government, in-house, or a combination. Must have experience handling patent preparation and prosecution, and patent portfolio management, preferably also have experience with patentability and freedom-to-operate assessments. Experience working with technologies in medical device and biotechnology fields is preferred. Experience with U.S. and/or foreign adversarial proceedings (such as patent litigation, US post-grant proceedings, or European oppositions) and/or IP licensing and transactions is a plus
- JD_from an ABA-accredited law school
- An active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- Admitted to practice and in good standing with the USPTO
