Job Description:Primary Function of Position:
- The Associate General Counsel, IP Strategy, will be responsible for supporting Intuitive's global IP litigation, diligence and strategy, including assertion of intellectual property against infringers, defense of Intuitive against charges of patent infringement, IP due diligence and other transactional deals and IP strategy.
- This Associate General Counsel will also need to be able to manage an active patent portfolio and identify and protect the company's legal and IP interests.
- The role requires the attorney to manage and perform direct work on a variety of IP matters, including patent, trademark, trade secret, licensing, contract, and litigation matters.
- The attorney will interact daily with engineers, data scientists, engineering management, clinical specialists, and company executives.
- The Associate General Counsel should provide advice about industry and regulatory developments as well as development and implementation of operational and risk management processes and procedures.
- The Associate General Counsel will report to the VP of IP Litigation & Strategy, and must escalate issues, as appropriate, and collaborate with all legal team members.
- The role must represent A Robotic-Assisted Surgery Company with external parties, including customers, regulators, affiliates and industry trade groups.

Job/Skill Requirements
- Minimum of 12+ years' experience of combined law firm, or in-house legal department experience including patent application preparation and prosecution
- Minimum education: J.D. Degree and a California state bar member in good standing
- Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office
- Strong academic and/or professional background in Computer Science, Software, AI/ML, Data Analytics, and/or Electrical Engineering preferred
- Significant experience with litigation, settlement negotiations, licensing transactions and other disputes and diligence
- Demonstrated IP experience (patents, trademarks, and trade secrets) in strategy, litigation and prosecution
- Ability to evaluate assets and legal issues related to licensing, purchasing or selling patent portfolios
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills with the ability to function in a fast-paced, cross functional, and high-technology organization
- Versatility and ability to learn new areas of law and apply knowledge effectively
- Demonstrated ability to manage manage the successful delivery of services by outside counsel and control matter costs
- Ability to travel as necessary which could include extended trips on occasion
- Engaging, courageous, and self-reliant, accustomed to managing with a collaborative, fact-based approach
- Collaborative, resourceful and able to anticipate needs and navigate in a rapidly changing environment
