Job Summary:
The Associate General Counsel I is responsible for assisting the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and/or Senior Counsel in all functions of the Legal Department as may be requested. Further, the Associate General Counsel I will support a wide range of legal functions and may have a specified client or responsibility for a particular legal service.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide advice and counsel on a wide variety of corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters; conduct legal research and analysis; and prepare written opinions and guidance for business leaders and other internal clients.
  • Provide legal support with respect to the day-to-day operation of existing markets and the implementation of new markets.
  • Provide legal support with respect to certain enterprise-level business functions.
  • Perform legal research and analysis, and provide legal advice, regarding state and federal insurance and healthcare law, including with respect to managed Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and Qualified Health Plans.
  • May handle administrative responsibilities delegated by senior attorneys and supervise non-attorney staff.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as requested.

Education and Experience:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college/university is required.
  • At least 3 years of legal experience is required; 5+ years of experience is preferred.
  • Experience at a law firm, within an in-house legal team, or as the attorney for a healthcare or insurance regulator is required.
  • Experience performing legal research and analysis, with an emphasis on healthcare law, is required.
  • Experience in healthcare and/or managed care law, in particular government programs, is preferred.
  • Experience with the business of managed care organizations is preferred.
