Overview:
Associate General Counsel - Research Operations Support

Responsibilities:
Key duties of the Associate General Counsel will include:
supporting A Health Care System Company's research function, including federal and industry sponsored research contracts and grants, clinical trials, intellectual property and complex technology transfer transactions;
  • providing legal advice and guidance to the IRB and the research conflicts of interest committee;
  • assisting the organization with navigating and complying with regulatory requirements within the research sphere, providing federal research compliance and fraud and abuse analysis and assisting with research compliance and misconduct investigations;
  • reviewing and negotiating research and grant agreements and licensing, material transfer and other technology transfer agreements;
  • participating in research and grant-related policy and procedure development and assisting with drafting policies and procedures;
  • assisting with research compliance educational activities and serving as resource on the laws, regulations and internal policies pertaining to research;
  • demonstrating strategic value through collaborating with others to meet organizational goals and objectives, advancing the research mission of the A Health Care System Company System.

The successful candidate will have prior experience of at least 8 years practicing health law, advising academic medical centers as in-house counsel or within a law firm health care practice, with a strong focus on research and technology transfer matters. Experience with analyzing and advising on federal and state healthcare regulatory and compliance matters is required, including experience with federal clinical research/human subjects protection regulations, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA. Experience preparing and negotiating complex contracts and other legal documents is required. Preference for candidates with both law firm and in-house experience.
