General Summary:
The Compliance Counsel Associate Director is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Compliance Programs policy and procedure infrastructure in collaboration with the the Office of Business Integrity & Ethics ("OBIE") Executive Director. The Compliance Counsel serves as the go-to expert on the company's Compliance infrastructure. The Compliance Counsel is also responsible for maintaining the company's anonymous reporting line, conducting all inquiries and investigations, and reporting results to the Executive Director and OBIE Committees.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and executes an annual, global Compliance policy and procedure plan and serve as the go-to expert on Compliance infrastructure.
  • Drafts all policies and procedures and leads cross-functional teams to ensure business stakeholders are involved in policy creation, have an opportunity to provide feedback, and support implementation and enforcement of the policy infrastructure.
  • Maintains the anonymous reporting hotline, conducts all inquiries and investigations, and report out findings to the Executive Director and OBIE Committees.
  • Leads departmental and cross-functional initiatives supporting Compliance imperatives.
  • Supports training and communications as well as OBIE Business Partner initiatives.
  • Maintains high level of knowledge of current and emerging laws and regulations and recent enforcement actions and inform and educate business units with tailored communications.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of biotech/pharmaceutical industry regulations, applicable local codes, and anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws and extensive experience working for biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies on these issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex inquiry and investigations discretely and professionally under time pressure.
  • Experience defining and enforcing standards via policies and procedures, creating and implementing training and communications, and facilitating internal reporting.
  • Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and influencing skills.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and employees, both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated superior ability to identify areas for improvement in controls, systems and processes and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of time and experience working across multiple countries.
  • Healthcare Compliance certification

Education and Experience:
  • Juris Doctorate or Law degree.
  • Typically requires 6 to 8 years in biotech or pharmaceutical Compliance either in-house or a combination of private law practice and in-house experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
