The State Corporation Commission (“SCC” or “Commission”) seeks an Associate Counsel to join its Commissioner’s Office. The Associate Counsel will report to and assist the Commission Counsel & Chief Legal Officer in providing legal advice to the Commissioners on matters relating to the administration and special operations of the Commission. Responsibilities of this position will include working closely with the administrative divisions of the Commission to provide legal advice on compliance, policy review and drafting, human resources matters, public records requests, contracting and procurement, ethics and conflicts of interest, and supervision of outside counsel. Core tasks will include performing legal research, drafting legal advice, drafting and reviewing contracts and policies, and meeting with Commission leadership and staff.

Preferred qualifications for this position include at least five years of experience in administrative, regulatory, or employment law. Any experience in government administration, ethics, public procurement or commercial contracting is highly desirable. Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the Virginia State Bar or eligibility for membership by motion are minimum requirements. Superior oral and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple workstreams are essential for this position.
