The Associate Counsel opportunity is an in-house counsel role as part of Bread Financials' Legal Department. The Legal Department is a collaborative and dynamic legal team providing strategic legal advice in support of credit, loyalty and marketing solutions. This role provides Legal counsel as to issues of a level typically assigned to a more junior level attorney with potential for increasing level of responsibility, and advises internal business leaders (including SLT). The Associate Counsel is responsible for relevant parts of material projects with declining levels of oversight from Director/Sr. Director attorney-in–charge. Is capable of advising business partners, including senior leaders, on contract, litigation, or regulatory issues (as applicable) at his/her level, the Associate Counsel dispenses legal advice in proper context of the business situation presented.
Contracts/Business Transactions Specific: Serve as first chair on small merchant agreements; serve as second chair and provide material support to senior attorneys on brand partner agreements; draft complex agreements, including brand partner agreements, strategic partnership agreements, fintech agreements, and/or a wide variety of agreements for critical engagements and relationships. Directly advise and coordinate with business leaders, including SLT and internal SMEs on matters involving complex transactions. Conduct contractual analysis in the context of laws, rulings, and regulations impacting Bread Financial. Coordinate and execute large scale contract research projects and implementation of strategy with respect to completed research. Provide material support on other transactional legal matters, such as strategic partnerships. Understands business objectives and contextualizes legal advice in light of those objectives.
Communication: Utilizes knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, and Teams to execute daily work. Applies the art of persuasion, negotiates, facilitates, and presents information in an articulate, professional, and digestible manner. Demonstrates professional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills when working with internal and external partners.
