Job Summary: Serve as assistant to the Prosecuting Attorney in representing the People of the State of Michigan in legal proceedings and prosecuting complaints at our South Haven office.Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
The Following Duties Are Normal for This Position. These Are Not to Be Construed as Exclusive or All-Inclusive. Other Duties May Be Required and Assigned.
- Advise Department of Health and Human Services Staff on Child Protection Matters
- Review for Legal Sufficiency and Approve or Deny Dhhs Child Protection Petitions
- Advise the Police Regarding Case Investigations and Search Warrants
- Review Police Reports and Approve or Deny the Filing of Charges Against Adults and Juveniles
- Conduct Pre-Trial Conferences
- Conduct Probable Cause Conferences in District Court Felony Cases
- Arrange for Service of Process in Child Protection Cases
- Prepare and Present in Court Cases Including Motions and Trials
- Prepare and Present in Court Termination of Parental Rights Petitions
- Represent Petitioners at Probate Court Mental Commitment Hearings
- Attend Specialty Court Meetings
Qualifications / Experience:
- Law Degree Required.
- Michigan Bar Membership Required.
- Must Have at Least 3+ Years of Experience in Related Field.
- Knowledge of And Adherence to Applicable Rules of Professional Conduct
- Legal Research and Writing Ability
- Public Speaking Ability
- Familiarity with United States and Michigan Constitutions
- Knowledge of Applicable Case Law, Statutes, Court Rules, and Rules of Evidence
- Ability to Think Logically
- Ability to Objectively Analyze and Evaluate Facts and Issues to Form Impartial Judgments
- Public Relations Skills and Ability to Work Cooperatively with Others
- Ability to Willingly Take Direction from Others and Make Application to Assignments
- Willingness and Ability to Be Flexible and Help Others as A Good Team Member
- Willingness to Work in South Haven District Court as Needed

Supervision Received:
Work Is Performed Under the General Direction of The Prosecuting Attorney and The Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.
