Summary:
The Assistant General Counsel will work closely with the General Counsel, the Deputy General Counsel, and the Office of the General Counsel to provide legal support and guidance to the Firm. The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for assisting with various legal matters, including drafting legal documents, regulatory compliance, litigation management, ethics issues, policy review, and general corporate governance. The Assistant General Counsel will collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, providing proactive legal advice and counsel to mitigate legal risk.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Legal Advice and Counsel:
  • Draft standard legal forms.
  • Assist the Office of the General Counsel in assessing, managing and resolving firm employment issues.
  • Provide legal guidance and support on a wide range of issues within the firm.
  • Analyze complex legal problems and provide practical solutions to mitigate risks and achieve business objectives.
  • Advise on legal compliance matters, including laws and regulations applicable to the firm's operations.
  • Review and draft transactional contracts and other documents generated by service and operating departments. Assist in the negotiation of such contracts, as appropriate.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations affecting the organization's operations.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations for every location the firm has an establishment.
  • Assist in developing and implementing compliance programs and policies.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and provide recommendations for corrective action.

Litigation and Dispute Resolution:

  • Support the General Counsel in managing litigation and dispute resolution matters.
  • Coordinate with external counsel, review legal documents, and assist in developing legal strategies.
  • Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and assist in preparation of legal strategy.

Skills and Educational Requirements:
  • JD from Accredited Law School
  • Five years of relevant experience
  • Must be well-versed in, and have extensive knowledge of, labor and employment laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local workplace and employment law
  • Knowledge of ethical rules and regulations
  • Prior experience working within a General Counsel office required
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Word a plus
