Job Description Summary
The Assistant General Counsel will report directly to the Deputy General Counsel and provide management and oversight of the Contracts Division of the Maximus Legal Department. Additionally, the individual will provide contracts and legal support for the US Services business unit of the Company. The position will involve assisting on procurement matters, and contract administration. In this capacity, the Assistant General Counsel will advise on contract matters affecting the Company and assist in managing contractual obligations and legal risks.

Job Summary
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide management oversight of the Contracts Department reporting to the Deputy General Counsel.
  • Provide legal advice and services primarily to management on legal problems of a difficult and complex nature, including emphasis on establishing policies that minimize legal risk.
  • Provide training and orientation, and co-ordinate the work of junior legal staff, paralegal and administrative staff.
  • Apply independent judgment in determining courses of action required to perform assignments.
  • Make recommendations on all matters including policies and complex legal problems.

Minimum Requirements:
  • JD from an accredited law school and admission to one or more State Bars is required.
  • 12-16 years of legal practice, including 5 or more years handling a broad range of commercial transactions.
  • Strong analytical, communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in audit and risk management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Strong consultative and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal communication skills. - Strong client and vendor relations skills.

  • Provide legal advice and services primarily to management on legal problems of a difficult and complex nature, including emphasis on establishing policies that minimize legal risk.
  • Provide training and orientation, and co-ordinate the work of junior legal staff, paralegal and administrative staff.
  • Apply independent judgment in determining courses of action required to perform assignments.
  • Make recommendations on all matters including policies and complex legal problems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal practice focused on healthcare compliance and healthcare industry regulation, including Medicare/Medicaid regulations and HIPAA compliance.
  • Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) is a plus.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards.
