Basic QualificationsJuris Doctor is required. In addition, a minimum 8 years' experience practicing law, preferably with a law firm or the U.S. government is required.
Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
An Aerospace and Defense Company has an immediate opening for an Assistant General Counsel. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. Representative Duties and Tasks:
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance on a wide range of issues, including government and regulatory compliance, data privacy, risk mitigation, intellectual property, and patents.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and regulatory filings to support the organization's compliance and risk management strategies.
- Ensure the organization's compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including monitoring changes in legislation and advising on necessary actions to maintain compliance.
- Direct and oversee internal and external counsel performing litigation on behalf of the company, including developing litigation strategies, and managing legal proceedings.
- Identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks, including advising on business decisions and contractual obligations.
- Provides counsel on various legal matters, particularly those involving litigation, complex legal issues, and specialized areas of law.
- Performs litigation on the company's behalf or coordinates litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel
- Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective management of legal matters across the organization.
- Provide training and education to employees on legal and regulatory requirements, company policies, and best practices to mitigate legal risks.
- Conduct internal investigations into potential legal or compliance issues and recommend appropriate actions based on findings.
- Select, develop, and evaluate legal personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the legal function, including mentoring junior staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.

- Proven leadership and management skills to lead a legal team, develop personnel, and ensure the efficient operation of the legal function.
- Expert problem-solving skills to identify legal issues, analyze potential solutions, and implement appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
- Significant knowledge and understanding of US Government Contracting statutes and regulations, and contract types
- Significant negotiation skills to achieve favorable outcomes in contract negotiations, settlements, and other legal agreements.
- Advanced ability to recognize and mitigate risk
- Exemplary analytical, written, communication and presentation skills
- In-depth knowledge of customer communities and business environment
- While on-site, you will be a part of the Fair Lakes location. Please note, the Fair Lakes building will be transitioned to Chantilly, VA by April 2025.
