Job Summary:
The Legal Counsel - Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy is a permanent and full-time manager role to be filled by an experienced data privacy professional. The successful candidate will have a solid legal background and be able to demonstrate strong interest and experience in digital and technology. The role is part of Accenture’s Global Data Privacy Team, sits within Accenture’s Legal function and reports to an Associate Director – Legal, Data Privacy. Accenture prefers to fill the role in North America (Canada, United States of America) but we are open to consider other locations. CIPP professional certification(s) or equivalents are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
As part of the Data Privacy Compliance functional group (“tower”) within Accenture’s global Data Privacy team, the role has the following data privacy responsibility:
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support to internal corporate and business functions globally in respect of data privacy, legal compliance, privacy risk management, incident handling and privacy by design.
  • Help strategize and drive development or improvement of Accenture’s privacy review processes and tools, and methodology for the review of, and to conduct privacy reviews of, new or existing internal projects and/or business and other data privacy compliance strategic projects on regional and global scale.
  • Act as an expert on data privacy topics related to the processing of personal data within Accenture’s internal functions.
  • Effectively work with the regional and local stakeholders to create and maintain suitable privacy review processes and embed privacy by design methodology into relevant business processes.
  • The role will also closely collaborate with other legal functions, especially with Employment Law and Geographic Compliance & Corporate teams.
  • Effectively work with the other DP team roles on global DP initiatives and projects.
  • Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments related to data privacy and adjacent fields/areas/topics, including public policy, regional data privacy regulation and standards that potentially impact Accenture’s ability to comply with local DP requirements.

  • Reports to: Associate Director – Legal, Data Privacy

Key Relationships:
  • Legal, including Geographic Compliance & Corporate, Employment Law, Disputes & Litigation, IP, Sourcing, as well as external counsel
  • Corporate Functions including Marketing, CIO/IS/ISA and HR and business stakeholders
  • Market and Market Unit leadership
  • Data Privacy and Information Security leads globally
  • Related subject matter experts (e.g. security professionals, records retention SMEs, analytics, government compliance)

Work Requirements:
  • Limited travel required as needed (usually <10%)
  • Must have ability to effectively work with others remotely and independently and manage a schedule with global clients

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • University law degree (Master or comparable level)
  • Min 5 years’ experience in global data privacy law and practice in a global company, preferably in technology and IT sector

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certification considered a plus
  • Experience and expertise with major national and international data privacy legislation, and with cross border privacy issues
  • Full proficiency in English (both spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of information and communication technologies or a technology degree or qualification
  • Experience with marketing related privacy questions (cookies, analytics)
  • Experience in monitoring privacy trends and developments and translating those into actionable requirements
  • Demonstrate data privacy and data security expertise of global data privacy and related laws
  • Demonstrate experience in project/program management and operational skills to lead cross-functional projects, especially in a multi-cultural environment

As required by Colorado law under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, Accenture provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $119,880 - $227,600
